Yes, you can walk across the Rainbow Bridge as a pedestrian.

You just need a passport (or other WHTI-compliant ID) for both directions. That’s it.

The Rainbow Bridge has a dedicated pedestrian walkway on the south side. It’s a 10-15 minute walk and pretty scenic. No toll for walking. Same rules as driving: you need to prove citizenship and identity going into the US and into Canada.

For US citizens: passport, passport card, or enhanced driver’s license. For Canadian citizens: passport, NEXUS card, or enhanced driver’s license. Other nationalities need a passport and possibly a visa depending on direction.

One gotcha: if you’re walking from the US into Canada, Canada asks the same questions as driving. Have your return plans ready. They can ask you to prove you’re not moving there permanently.

Also: the Rainbow Bridge can close to pedestrians during high winds or construction. Check their Twitter or call ahead if you’re making a special trip. But normally, it’s open 24/7.
