The Roborock Q5 Pro is the better first buy — unless you really want the Roomba brand

If you’re buying your first robot vacuum, the natural instinct is to look at Roomba — it’s the brand everyone knows. But the honest answer is more interesting. The Roomba j7+ is a genuinely good machine at $599, especially if you have pets and need that obstacle-avoidance camera. But the Roborock Q5 Pro at $449 offers better suction, comparable navigation, and a similar overall experience for significantly less money. I’ve seen both run in the same house, and the Roborock leaves less behind in a single pass. The Roomba is the safe answer, but the Roborock is the smarter one — unless the brand name actually matters to you, in which case the j7+ won’t disappoint.
