The j7+ sees what's on your floor — the i3+ just bumps into it

The Roomba j7+ (and newer j9) uses a camera and PrecisionVision to identify and avoid pet poop, cords, and shoes. The i3+ has no such feature — it navigates by bumping into things and hoping for the best. That’s the fundamental divide in the Roomba lineup: the j-series sees obstacles, the i-series feels them.

The difference in real-world use is dramatic. The i3+ will plow through a phone charger cord and either get tangled or drag it across the room. The j7+ will see the cord and go around it. If you have pets or kids — or even if you just leave things on the floor — the j-series is worth the upgrade. The obstacle avoidance hardware isn’t a luxury feature; it’s what makes the vacuum truly autonomous.
