Carpet detection saves you from manually adjusting suction
Carpet detection is one of those features that sounds minor until you’ve lived without it. When a robot vacuum moves from hard floor to carpet, the brush spins slower against the higher-friction fibers. The sensor detects this change and signals the motor to increase suction and spin the brush faster — more power where it’s needed, less where it isn’t.
Without it, a vacuum either runs at full power all the time (wasting battery on hard floors and running louder than necessary) or runs at the same power level everywhere (leaving carpets under-cleaned).
The practical benefit is that you never need to manually adjust settings between rooms. The vacuum handles the transition itself, boosting on carpet and dialing back on tile. It’s a small convenience that adds up fast if your home is a mix of surfaces.
