The robot needs to know what surface it’s on before it can adjust how it cleans. Carpet detection lets it tell soft carpet from smooth hard floor and automatically tweak suction and brush speed. Without it, you’d get weak suction on carpet or a brush spinning too aggressively on hardwood.
