Soccer cleats are the one thing you should buy new

When your kid starts soccer, there’s a long list of gear you suddenly need. My rule: borrow or skip everything else — hand-me-down shin guards, borrowed balls, whatever — but buy the cleats new. They’re the one piece of equipment that directly affects how a kid moves, stops, and feels on the field. Bad cleats mean slipping, discomfort, and a kid who doesn’t want to run. Good ones mean traction and confidence. This is not the place to save a few dollars.
