The Solar Rover kit has a great concept that the execution doesn't live up to

I really wanted to like the Solar Rover kit — the idea of a kid building a solar-powered vehicle is exactly the kind of hands-on STEM learning I’m always looking for. But the execution is frustrating: the instructions are hard to follow, the pieces don’t fit together as cleanly as they should, and the finished rover needs direct, strong sunlight to actually move, which means a cloudy day or indoor testing is basically out of the question. My kid got excited about the concept and then disappointed by the experience, and that’s a hard thing to watch. For the same money, there are better solar kits out there that actually work reliably and let the kid focus on the science rather than fighting with the assembly.
