Yes, that’s the cheapest way: on foot.

No tolls for pedestrians. You just need a passport (or enhanced driver’s license if you’re a US citizen). No visa needed for US or Canadian citizens visiting each other’s countries for a day trip. For other nationalities, check if you need a Canadian eTA or US visa before crossing — but that’s the same whether you walk or drive.

Driving is the expensive alternative. The Rainbow Bridge toll is $5.00 USD or $6.50 CAD each way for cars, plus gas and parking on both sides. Walking is free, takes about 10 minutes, and drops you right at the tourist zone (Clifton Hill, casino, falls). You can park on the US side for cheap or free at the state park lot or one of the nearby hotels if you’re clever.

If you’re staying in NY and just want to see the Canadian side for a few hours, walk it. No paperwork, no traffic, no bridge fees. Future you will appreciate the $10 you saved.
