Yes, soldered RAM (LPDDR) typically generates less heat than socketed (SO-DIMM) modules, but the difference is small enough that it shouldn’t drive your laptop decision.
Here’s why: soldered RAM is often lower-voltage LPDDR, which sips power and produces less heat. It also sits flush on the motherboard, so heat can spread into the board or a nearby heat pipe more evenly. Socketed RAM sticks have connectors and space around them that can trap heat, plus they tend to use standard DDR4 or DDR5 at slightly higher voltages.
But in practice, the thermal impact is marginal. Your laptop’s CPU and GPU are still the heat factories. Unless you’re doing memory bandwidth-heavy work for hours in a cramped space, the RAM cooling difference won’t affect performance or fan noise.
