Technically you can remove and replace BGA (ball grid array) RAM chips with a hot air station. But the practical success rate for hobbyists is low, and the cost of messing up is a dead motherboard.

The big problem is compatibility. The memory controller on your CPU (or SoC) was designed for specific RAM configurations — capacity, speed, timings, rank. Just slapping in higher-density chips won’t work unless the controller supports it. Even then, you need the exact same package, voltage, and firmware support (SPD data). Good luck finding that.
