Soldered RAM failure means a whole new motherboard.
Complete motherboard replacement, not just a swap.
If you have soldered RAM and a chip fails while still under warranty, the manufacturer has two choices: replace the whole laptop or replace the motherboard. Either way, it’s a bigger, more expensive repair for them. For socketed RAM, they just send you a new stick and you pop it in. Same warranty coverage, but the process is night and day.
Out of warranty, soldered RAM failure essentially means the device is totaled unless you’re willing to pay for a professional rework (which can cost more than the laptop is worth). Socketed RAM? $30 for a new module and you’re back in business.
The warranty covers the failure either way, but soldered RAM turns a simple fix into a board-level repair. Future you won’t be thrilled.
