Most consumer inkjets get by with four cartridges, but the TR8620a uses five: a pigment-based black (PGI-280 PGBK) for crisp text, a dye-based black (CLI-281 BK) for photo blacks, and individual cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges. Standard and XL high-yield variants are available across the board — if you print with any regularity, the XL cartridges make more sense per page.
