Thunderbolt 3 is the M1 MacBook Air's only storage expansion path

With no internal storage upgrades possible, the M1 MacBook Air relies on its two Thunderbolt 3 / USB 4 ports for external storage. An external SSD is the only way to grow capacity after purchase. It won’t match internal SSD speeds for heavy workloads, but it’s perfectly fine for documents and media.
