Both are nearly identical in boat size and duration—it’s the poncho that sets them apart.

The boats on both sides carry about the same number of people (around 600-700) and the ride lasts roughly 20 minutes, including the slow approach and the time getting blasted near the Horseshoe Falls. If you’re comparing strictly on stats, it’s a tie.

The real difference is the poncho. Maid of the Mist uses a thicker, reusable blue poncho with a hood that actually stays cinched. Hornblower gives you a thin disposable red poncho that feels like a trash bag and tends to rip at the seams. You get wetter faster with Hornblower.

If you’re already on the Canadian side, Hornblower is fine—it’s not bad, just less comfortable. But if you have a choice, take Maid of the Mist. Your shirt will thank you.
