LPDDR5 latency is not worth worrying about.
It’s noticeable in benchmarks but invisible in real-world use for 95% of people.
The latency difference between LPDDR5 and standard DDR5 is real—maybe 10-15% higher on paper. But in practice, that doesn’t translate to anything you’d feel. Opening an app, editing a photo, playing a game—your memory controller and cache hierarchy handle most of the heavy lifting. The extra nanoseconds only show up in synthetic tests and very specific workloads like high-frequency trading or complex physics simulations.
What matters more is capacity and repairability. Soldered LPDDR5 means you’re stuck with whatever you buy. Standard DDR5 modules can be swapped later. If you’re choosing between a laptop with 16GB LPDDR5 vs. one with 16GB DDR5 that you can upgrade to 32GB, get the upgradeable one. That decision will impact your experience far more than latency.
Future you will care more about having 32GB than about a few nanoseconds of latency.
