Lorraine Ellison went from gospel to R&B in under a year

Ellison started as a gospel singer with the Golden Chords in 1963, but by 1964 she’d already landed her first R&B chart entry — “I Dig You Baby” on Mercury Records. That’s a remarkably fast pivot between two very different vocal traditions.
