A Marcel Duchamp photograph haunted Toru Takemitsu's dream of a pentagonal garden

Takemitsu dreamed of birds descending into a pentagonal garden, a vision he traced to a photograph of Marcel Duchamp with his head shaved in the shape of a star-shaped garden. The image found its way into the music.
