Talk Talk recorded Spirit of Eden at Wessex Studios with an open EMI budget

The album was compiled from an extended recording process at London’s Wessex Studios between 1987 and 1988, with EMI giving the band an open budget following the success of The Colour of Spring. That kind of blank-check creative freedom doesn’t come around often — and Talk Talk used every bit of it to make something completely their own.
