Producer Kedar Massenburg discovered Erykah Badu after hearing a 19-song demo called Country Cousins she’d recorded with her cousin Robert “Free” Bradford. That demo eventually led to Baduizm — one of the most distinctive debut albums of the 1990s and the birth of a neo-soul icon.
