Mahmoud Ahmed’s Alèmyé was reissued as Éthiopiques 19 by Buda Musique as part of their essential series that introduced Ethiopian music to Western audiences in the early 2000s. It’s how most listeners outside Ethiopia first heard his hypnotic, funk-infused sound.
