Pearl Jam rose from the tragedy of Mother Love Bone — Andrew Wood's death led to Vedder
After Mother Love Bone dissolved following frontman Andrew Wood’s heroin overdose in 1990, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard started jamming with guitarist Mike McCready. They sent an instrumental demo to San Diego surfer Eddie Vedder, who wrote and recorded vocals over it sight unseen — and Pearl Jam was born from the ashes of tragedy.
