Flash was genuinely surprised label CEO Sylvia Robinson agreed to release “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel.” As he put it: “I wouldn’t even know how to ask a record label, ‘Let me make a record with records.’” Robinson saw something in the concept that Flash himself couldn’t articulate.
