McKinley Morganfield — aka Muddy Waters — took his name from a local creek

The name Muddy Waters sounds mythic, but it came from a creek. McKinley Morganfield took it from the muddy waters of Deer Creek near his Mississippi childhood home. Sometimes the best stage names are the ones you don’t invent.
