Van Morrison shaped Astral Weeks in Boston clubs before recording it in New York

Though recorded in New York, the songs on Astral Weeks were planned, shaped, and rehearsed in Boston and Cambridge, where Morrison lived and performed for much of 1968. He developed the material in small clubs backed by jazz musicians, writing at the kitchen table.
