Curtis Mayfield won France's Prix Otis Redding for the album Curtis

France’s Académie du Jazz awarded Curtis Mayfield the Prix Otis Redding in 1972 for Curtis. Named after another soul great, the prize recognized Mayfield’s bold shift into politically charged funk after leaving the Impressions.
