Soldered RAM fails when repeated heating and cooling (thermal cycling) cracks the solder joints. Contact becomes intermittent. Your system might run fine for hours, then suddenly lock up. Or it boots fine cold but crashes after warming up. Memory tests (like MemTest86) often pass because the error is intermittent at that stage. That’s what makes it tricky.
You might also see blue screens with cryptic memory-related stop codes, or corrupted data in files you were working on. Sometimes the system just refuses to boot one morning, then boots fine later—like a ghost.
If you suspect this, try reproducing the failure under load (heavy multitasking or a stress test). But don’t expect a clean diagnosis. Soldered RAM can’t be replaced, so the fix is a motherboard swap or a new machine. Catch it early if you can.
