No, it probably won’t boot, and even if it does, you won’t get any benefit.

Mixing ECC and non-ECC memory isn’t like mixing brands of regular RAM — the memory controller needs to know how to handle error correction. Most consumer laptops (the kind with soldered non-ECC RAM) use CPUs and chipsets that simply don’t support ECC. Slap an ECC SODIMM in the free slot and the system will either fail to POST or boot but ignore the ECC entirely.

On top of that, ECC RAM in laptop form factors is rare and usually reserved for mobile workstations (think Dell Precision, Lenovo ThinkPad P series). If your laptop came with soldered non-ECC, it wasn’t designed for ECC.

Buy the right laptop for the job if you need error correction. This one isn’t it.
