Don't upgrade soldered RAM. If you must, match the original timings exactly.

Not possible in practice for almost everyone. Soldered RAM isn’t upgradable in the traditional sense—you’d need to desolder the existing chips and replace them with new ones, which requires specialized equipment and risk of killing the board. Even if you pull it off, the memory controller on the CPU expects certain specs. Faster chips will downclock to match, but if you change timings, you’re gambling on stability. The controller might reject the new chips entirely or run at the original speed anyway.

So if you’re actually doing this (you probably aren’t), match the original chip’s full spec: speed, CL, tRCD, voltage. Don’t just go “faster = better.” The board’s firmware trains memory at boot; if the new chips don’t respond exactly like the old ones, you’ll get boot loops or random crashes.

Real talk: This is not a DIY upgrade. Just buy a device with the RAM you need from the start. Soldered memory is a trap.
