Don't rely on an external page file to fix soldered RAM.
Technically yes, practically no. The bottleneck stops being storage speed and becomes the interface latency and Windows’ paging behavior.
Even a fast Thunderbolt NVMe enclosure introduces 10-15 microseconds of added latency vs. internal. For swapping memory pages that the OS expected to be local, that adds up to a stuttery, sluggish experience. The external drive will also get hammered with constant writes, shortening its life if you’re paging heavily.
The real problem: if you’re running out of RAM, the system is already swapping. Adding external swap just makes it swap slower. You’re better off adjusting your usage—closing tabs, lighter apps—or accepting that the laptop has limits.
