Don't buy a soldered laptop if you need ECC.

You can’t handle ECC or registered memory for soldered upgrades because there are no upgrades. It’s baked in at the factory.

If your workload needs ECC — think large datasets, scientific computing, or financial modeling — you need a workstation laptop with socketed SO-DIMM slots. Most proper workstation laptops (ThinkPad P series, Dell Precision 7xxx, HP ZBook) still use replaceable memory. But some ultra-thin “workstation” models solder it on. Always check the spec sheet before buying. If you already bought one with soldered RAM and no ECC option, there is no fix. No adapter, no workaround.

Your only move is to buy the right configuration from the start.
